When disaster strikes, community is what carries us through. During the recent devastation of Hurricane Helene, Waightstills Restaurant & Tavern and The Inn at Shady Lawn Lodge came together to support the people of Avery County by providing a safe place to stay and warm meals to those in need.
A Shelter in the Storm
As families across our region faced power outages, flooding, and displacement, The Inn at Shady Lawn Lodge opened its doors by donating rooms to locals who needed shelter. For many, it was a place of safety, comfort, and peace during a frightening and uncertain time.
At the same time, Waightstills Restaurant & Tavern worked tirelessly to provide donated meals, making sure that no one went hungry. From hot breakfasts to warm dinners, the restaurant became a gathering place where neighbors could find nourishment and encouragement.
