Waightstills Restaurant & Tavern was founded with a deep appreciation for history, hospitality, and the enduring spirit of North Carolina’s High Country. Named in honor of Waightstill Avery—North Carolina’s first Attorney General and the namesake of Avery County—the restaurant was created as a place where tradition meets community. From its earliest days, the vision was simple: to offer a welcoming space where locals, families, and travelers could gather around good food, a crackling fire, and heartfelt conversation. The tavern echoed the timeless charm of an old English pub, while the restaurant offered a more refined dining experience. Together, they formed a unique destination that honored the past while serving the present.
